Germantown Woman’s Club Supports Germantown Community Theatre With Multiple Donations

(GERMANTOWN, TN) Germantown Community Theatre has been the recipient of gracious donations this theatre season from the Germantown Woman’s Club. In fact, four separate donations. The GWC service organization founded the theatre in 1972 to help foster cultural arts in the growing Memphis suburb of Germantown that nearly tripled in size in a very brief period. Since that time, the group has supported the theatre with an annual $1,000 donation.

In the 2011-2012 season, the Germantown Woman’s Club has been especially generous to GCT. In addition to their annual $1,000 donation, the group also raised $1,800 to help the theatre install a new rigging system for the theatrical lights. On April 11, 2012, GWC hosted a themed fundraising dinner in conjunction with the theatre’s musical production of THE SPITFIRE GRILL, featuring gift baskets that brought in over $500 for the theatre’s programming. Most recently, outgoing GWC President, Dorrie Szymkowicz, presented the theatre with a check for $300 as an added gift in honor of the theatre’s 40th season.

Teresa Jordon Germantown Woman’s Club’s liaison to GCT stated, “We are thrilled to continue our legacy of supporting the theatre that our group helped to found in 1972. We enjoy being a partner in the arts and helping to advocate for cultural entertainment in the Germantown community.”

The Germantown Women’s Club was organized in 1947 to promote a common interest in culture, education, philanthropy, public service and the Fine Arts in the Germantown area.

In the early 1970′s, the Germantown Women’s Club played an important role in establishing the Germantown Community Theatre. That support and partnership with the Theatre continues to this day, with an annual Dinner Theatre fundraising event for Club Members and their guests, benefiting the Theatre’s Children’s program. This year’s event raised a total of $530.00.
