Spring 2013 Fun In Theatre Classes

Saturday Fun in Theatre Day Camps [NOW ENROLLING]

“The Jungle Book”
March 30th – April 20th, 2013
Saturdays,  9:30-11:30 am
Taught by Laura Knote
(Recommended for ages 4-8)

Do you know how to roar like a tiger? Or hunt for food like a python? How do monkeys move around? Come with us on an adventure as we get to know the animals from the The Jungle Book. Students ages 4-8 will create their class’s own jungle landscape through the exploration of sound, movement and acting, thriving among the flora of their own crafty creations. A final presentation for friends and family will take place on the stage of the theatre on the last day of class.

“Hans Christian Andersen”
March 30th – April 20th, 2013
Saturdays, 12:00-2:00 pm
Taught by Leigh Eck
(Recommended for ages 8-11)

Join us as we explore some of Hans Christian Anderson’s classic stories, including The Princess and the Pea and The Emperor’s New Clothes. Students ages 8-11 will study the themes and lessons of these legendary fairy tales, eventually focusing on the story of The Steadfast Tin Soldier. The class will prepare a staged presentation of the tale of the little soldier and his beloved ballerina, complete with crafts, to be shared with friends and family on the last day of class.

“Stage Combat for Young Actors”
March 30th – April 20th, 2013
Saturdays, 2:30-4:30 pm
Taught by Teddy Eck
(Recommended for ages 10+)

Ever wonder how actors brawl in plays and movies without getting hurt? This class will teach you how! Come learn how to stage a convincing hand-to-hand struggle that is safe, fun and sure to impress an audience. Students ages 10+ will learn the importance of safety and communication as they prepare a scene with a weapon-free play fight combination to share with friends and family in the presentation on the final day of class. En Garde!

Saturday Fun in Theatre (FIT) Day Camps  meet on Saturdays for four (4) weeks. Registration begins February 8 until maximum is reached. All fees include all materials for the class.

Home School Classes

“Folk Tales International”
January 10th-April 4th (No class on March 14th due to Spring Break)
Thursdays, 9:30-10:30am
Taught by Morgan Stewart
(Recommended for ages 9-13)

We’ve all heard the American tales of “Babe the Blue Ox” and “Paul Bunyan”. Join us as we visit folk tales from around the world! Using improvisation, movement and acting exercises, students will study several different international cultures by dissecting and understanding the art, origin and relevance of their folk tales. Students will create a staged performance of three folk tales, as well as craft elements that support the telling of the stories, culminating in a presentation for friends and family on the final day of class.

“Radio Theatre”
January 10th-April 4th (No class on March 14th due to Spring Break)
Thursdays, 10:45-11:45am
Taught by Brandon Lawrence
(Recommended for ages 13-18)

Before there was television, adults and children alike looked to the radio to be entertained through storytelling. From the infamous broadcast of War of the Worlds to today’s A Prairie Home Companion, telling a story using only sound has survived as a true art form. Students will learn how to create and tell a compelling story and engage the imagination using voice and sound effects. The class will be guided through an exploration of physical and vocal tools to bring their story to life for a presentation for family and friends on the final day of class.

Home School classes  meet on Thursdays for 12 weeks. Registration begins December 12th until maximum is reached. All fees include all materials for the class.
