2014 Fun in Theatre Summer Camps at GCT
Fun in Theatre summer camps feature full and half-day programs. Students learn about all aspects of theatre from singing and dancing to acting and art. There is a camp for every age. Whether you want to create your own story, design masks or costumes, or brush up on your improvisational skill, these classes are the perfect “FIT” for your young actor.
“Secret Garden” June 9-June 13, 2014
Session 1 (Ages 7-14) 9:00am-4:00pm
What lies on the other side of the wall? A secret garden, holding stories and treasures from the past just waiting to be explored! Travel to the secret garden with us as we follow the characters Mary, Colin and Dicken in an exploration of the themes of magic, hope and the power of nature. Students will create an original theatrical presentation through acting, movement and visual arts.
“Alice in Wonderland” June 16-June 20, 2014
Session 2 (Ages 6-12) 9:00am-4:00pm
Tumble down the rabbit hole with us and venture into the fantastical realm of Wonderland! Go on an adventure with Alice, the White Rabbit and an array of creative characters as we visit this musical version of the classic story by Lewis Carroll. Students will study music, movement, acting and visual arts skills to create their own version of this beloved tale.
“Broadway Camp: WICKED” June 23-June 27, 2014
Session 3 (Ages 10+) 9:00am-4:00pm
Defy Gravity and soar to great musical heights with us in this year’s performance-based summer camp. Students will study and perform scenes and musical selections from the blockbuster Broadway smash, Wicked, sharing a final presentation on the last day of camp including music, dance and acting.
“The Velveteen Rabbit” July 14-July 18, 2014
Session 4A (“Lil’ FIT”-PreK-1st Grade) 9:00am-11:00am
Have you ever wished your favorite toy could come to life? Join us for this magical mini-camp for ages 4-6 and explore the power of love. Students will learn about the story of The Velveteen Rabbit, studying the various characters and themes using movement, vocalization, acting and visual arts.
“Improv Intensive” July 14-July 18, 2014
Session 4B (Ages 10+) 11:30am-2:30pm
As seen on the show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, improvisation is a form of art that strengthens an individual’s ability to act spontaneously and confidently. This mini-camp will fine tune students’ inventiveness and reactionary skills through fun and exciting games and exercises, helping to build valuable life skills such as performance, public speaking and creative thinking.
“Treasure Island” July 21- July 25, 2014
Session 5 (Ages 6-12) 9:00am-4:00pm
Ahoy, matey! Join this camp of pirates and scallywags as we go on a journey to a land where X marks the spot for treasure and adventure. Students will find their own inner pirate, exploring the characters of this classic novel through movement, sound, costumes and acting. You best fall in line with Long John Silver or find yourself walkin’ the plank!
